Overview:
The Manager, IT is responsible for overseeing and managing the daily operations of the IT department. This position is part inspiring leader, part technical project manager, and part innovative systems/network administrator.  This individual leads and directs a team in the creative and effective implementation and deployment of cloud applications, servers, networks, computer workstations, mobile devices, backup systems, security policies, and disaster recovery plans and processes. The Manager, IT leads initiatives for securely implementing and managing a technology infrastructure that supports JPL workflows and business strategies.

Manager Responsibilities:
  • Cultivates a talented and motivated technical support team and a positive team environment.
  • Clearly defines and communicates department goals and vision in alignment with the JPL business strategy.
  • Coaches and mentors staff in one-on-one touch-base meetings, and performs annual performance reviews and career discussions in alignment with the JPL talent development program.
  • Manages IT staff workloads, sets project and work priorities, and develops department project-tracking systems.
  • Functions as the IT Department Technical Project Manager to keep department projects on-schedule and on-budget.
  • Develops, maintains and grows relationships with preferred vendors.
  • Establishes annual IT expense and capital investment budget, and ensures tracking systems are in place for hardware, licensing, and vendor service agreements.
  • Functions as the company security officer for compliance-related inquiries, including client provided audit questionnaires, cyber insurance applications, and third-party penetration tests and application scans.
  • Fosters adherence to information security policies and best practices that adequately protect JPL and client assets and information.
  • Ensures that the IT team provides an environment where project files are stored in a secure, consistent and accessible manner.
  • Establishes policies to ensure documentation is in place for all IT systems, applications and integrations.
  • Proactively communicates IT project status updates to management team and staff in meetings and written communications.
  • Keeps the VP, Operations updated through regular meetings, status reports and impromptu communications.
  • Ensures the IT team is providing the highest level of customer service to the JPL staff.
  • All other responsibilities as assigned

System Administrator Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the administration of a mostly cloud-based enterprise infrastructure.
  • Collaborates with IT team members in maintaining and evolving interoperability of cloud applications and physical systems, servers and network infrastructure.
  • Ensures maximum uptime for the technology infrastructure and identifies areas where workflows can be evolved, enhanced or streamlined to optimize productivity and efficiency.
  • Monitors metrics, logging, and system performance and develops strategies for improvement.

Qualifications:
  • Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or related field of study.
  • A minimum of eight years of experience in IT.
  • People management, team leadership, or mentoring experience.
  • Proven hands-on IT technical project management experience.
  • Security certifications, knowledge of best practices, and experience responding to security audits and applications.
  • System administration experience with hands-on management of cloud-based environments and integrations, including experience with Microsoft 365, S3 cloud storage, SSO, SAML, and MFA.
  • Advanced experience with physical servers, virtualization, PC and Mac hardware, operating systems, software, software as a service, network appliances, Wi-Fi technologies, and backup and archive solutions.
  • Advanced computer networking knowledge, including switch configuration, DHCP, DNS, VLANS, subnets and computer connectivity, including Ethernet, Fibrechannel and WiFi.
  • Excellent organization and communications skills, with exceptional attention to detail. 
  • Ability to occasionally flex your schedule to work non-business hours to accommodate installation deadlines and production schedules.
